it means giving over
to something bigger
than the plan you had
i've surrendered many plans
what came instead
was better
every time
which is how i know to keep doing it

I picked up the wrong bag at the airport once
got halfway to the taxi
before i noticed
inside: someone else's life
neatly folded
labeled
going somewhere
mine was still on the belt
going in circles
which is accurate

I used to think softness was weakness

turns out softness is the harder thing
