The creek is lower this summer
than last summer
i've been coming here since i was a kid
the rocks the creek used to cover
are showing now
dry and pale
like something not meant to be seen

i compost everything
coffee grounds and eggshells
the wilted lettuce i meant to eat
last tuesday
it all becomes soil
which becomes tomatoes
which become dinner
this is the best loop i know

for something that size
it fills the whole forest
i think about people like that
small in the world
but filling the room
